Puppy with crocheted ball
Puppy Balls

Now you can crochet your way into your dog's heart. These easy-to-make balls are fun to play with and particularly good with puppies. You can wash them, you can toss them.
Using a four-ply all-purpose yarn and an appropriate crochet hook, chain 40 loosely by pulling each ch to a 1 " length. Secure each ch with a knot (at the end of each ch, ch 1, pull up a loop in the back, ch 1, then ch together.
Row 2: Work 4 triple ch in each loop
Row 3: Work 4 triple ch in each stitch
Complete: Thread a darning needle with a length of wool. Thread through the knots made in the first row. Pull up tightly and tie. I usually make a variety of colours (to match the puppy collars I buy). That way the new puppy owner gets a colour co-ordinated puppy with collar and ball to match (and the puppy takes a 'little bit of home' with him when he goes.
