Ch. Cuprea Black Admiral (1974-1984) - George was my introduction to Gordons. A British import of good lineage, he boasted a typically UK head, combining dignity and handsomeness in one package. He was 3 years old when I got him and we learned the show-ropes the hard way with George. He hated the ring and was exceedingly nervous out in public. We persevered and were rewarded with a Championship. Looking back, I probably wouldn't have repeated that learning experience. However, at home, George was a different dog entirely: loyal, affectionate and intelligent. If people met him on his own turf he was an excellent introduction to the breed. That is, if you were introduced as a friend. Although he was afraid of his own shadow, he never hesitated to try to protect me and our home. In one such moment of valour, he cornered the gas man on top of the propane tank. There he remained until I got home two hours later. Little did the man know that a harsh word would have sent George scurrying for cover. |
