I'M NOT HERE
Don't stand by my grave and weep For I'm not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamonds glint on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn's rain. When you awaken in morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circle flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there, I did not die. Author unknown The longer one is involved with animals, the more losses one must face. This inevitability does not make it easier. Preparing does not make it easier. Experience does not make it easier the next time. No matter how many dogs pass through our doors, the loss of each one is vividly remembered and sadly recalled. However, it is also possible to look back and enjoy the time spent and relive the special relationship that was enjoyed. We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan...
