The Sungold dogs: Bernie, Ch. Sungold's Burnished Ebony, CD (1976-1990); Amber, Ch. Sungold's Northern Light (1976-1991); and Star, Ch. Sungold's Evening Star, CD (1979-1994). Prior to a change in kennel name to SureShot, the dogs that were present during our first years of involvement, mostly carried the Sungold prefix. During the time these dogs were growing up, I was unable to spend much time or money showing them but they each managed to finish their championships and do some obedience work. Star was the only one to make a bit of a mark in the showring, winning BOB at the Tri-Setter Specialty from the classes to finish her Championship.

The main activity I pursued with these dogs was scent hurdle racing which was introduced to Edmonton with our first team, an all-setter team called the Spirit of Edmonton. With a new sport, things were rather relaxed and didn't hit the competitiveness that exists now. When we couldn't maintain a totally setter lineup, we changed the team "personality" and name to the Red Raiders. Under that banner we had some incredible experiences traveling to races and competing at the National finals. Although I did train other dogs to race, it was never the same after the three 'old-timers' were gone.
