Ticket's first great trial
What a wonderful weekend we had at the Ft. Sask
agility trials. This was Ticket's very first outing in agility and I had no
idea what to expect (certainly not what she did). She was amazing; fast,
controlled, and enjoying every minute of the experience. She qualified in her
first two rounds in Novice Regular and, on one of them, clocked in with a 29
second time on a 72 second course. Then it was on to the Jumper/Weaver course
and, while we had a bobble on the first round, she qualified on the second. The
next day wasn't quite so easy. While doing her stay on the table, she spotted
some horse droppings and jumped off, determined to make that her breakfast. No
amount of pleading would dissuade her and, once it was obvious that her mouth
was stuffed full, I finally had to hold her collar and fish out two handfuls of
it and fling it to the corner. The next round, we were heading back to the
table which was, unfortunately, in exactly the same location and I could see her
eying the spot as we were taking the incoming jumps. Sure enough, she went
straight for it again. Yikes!
After
kissing both those rounds good-bye, I was starting to wonder if we needed a
little training session before another round. We still had two jumper/weaver
courses to run. The first one resulted in a qualifier but it was slow as she
stopped to check out for more 'leavings' on the ground. Fortunately, even
though it was the end of the day and there were fewer people there to share in
our celebrations, her last round was phenomenal. A 26 second time on a 40
second course, a qualifying round, and her very first title. Yipppee. Not a
bad way to start off in agility - one new title and two legs for another.
Erin was with us at this trial as
well. Unfortunately, she was having one of her 'slow' days. When she does
this, no amount of coaxing convinces her that she should go faster. She ran
fine, just ssssslllllloooooooow. We still managed to get two qualifiers for
her during the weekend though (one in Intermediate Standard, the other in
Intermediate Jumper Weavers). Obviously, she didn't feel any competitive
pressure to match Ticket's
performance.
Here's a cute pic I took
of her though and I think you can see why I forgive her so
easily.
